Health

It is vital that the school have accurate telephone numbers – residence, business, and emergency numbers – in the event that your child becomes ill and you must be reached.  A child will be sent home when s/he exhibits:

  1. a temperature of 99.6 degrees or more;
  2. a severe cold, sneezing, or coughing;
  3. vomiting or abdominal pain or diarrhea;
  4. symptoms of contagion.

If the above conditions are present at home, the child should not be sent to school.  When an illness requires an extended absence/doctor visit, a statement from the doctor is required for the return to school.  Students who have experienced high fever should not be returned to school until they have been fever/symptom free for 24 hours without the benefit of Tylenol, etc.

We follow specific guidelines in the management of communicable disease.  If you suspect your child has chickenpox, scabies, ringworm, pinkeye or another contagious disease, please let the school know immediately.  Your child will need to have a note from the doctor and be checked by the school nurse before returning to class.

Any student who has the need for administration of medication should be referred to the school nurse.  Teachers and other staff members do not administer or approve the administration of medications.  When it is essential that medication be administered during the school day, the school nurse must be provided with a consent document from the physician and the parent.  The medication policy includes prescription and over-the-counter medications.  No medication will be administered (including cough drops) without written authorization from the doctor.
